WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
================================================================================

STEP 1: BACKUP DATABASE (CRITICAL!)
   Command: mysqldump -u username -p database > backup.sql
   Or use phpMyAdmin export

STEP 2: RUN DATABASE MIGRATION
   Upload and run: database_migration_add_username.sql
   Via MySQL command line or phpMyAdmin

STEP 3: POPULATE USERNAMES
   Upload: populate_usernames.php
   Access: https://yoursite.com/populate_usernames.php
   This assigns usernames to all existing accounts

STEP 4: TEST MIGRATION
   Upload: test_username_login.php
   Access: https://yoursite.com/test_username_login.php
   Verify all tests pass (green checkmarks)

STEP 5: TEST LOGIN
   - Try logging in with username + password
   - Verify OTP email works
   - Check PIN authentication
   - Confirm dashboard loads

STEP 6: MAKE USERNAME REQUIRED (Optional)
   SQL: ALTER TABLE account MODIFY COLUMN username VARCHAR(100) NOT NULL;

STEP 7: CLEAN UP (IMPORTANT FOR SECURITY!)
   Delete these files from server:
   - populate_usernames.php
   - test_username_login.php
   - All documentation files (.md and .txt)
   - database_migration_add_username.sql

================================================================================
SYSTEM BEHAVIOR AFTER MIGRATION:
================================================================================

BEFORE:
   Login Field: "ACCOUNT NUMBER"
   User enters: 1234567890 (account number)

AFTER:
   Login Field: "USERNAME"
   User enters: john.doe (username)

UNCHANGED:
   ✓ Account numbers still exist and display everywhere
   ✓ Dashboard pages work without modification
   ✓ Transactions use account numbers
   ✓ Admin login uses email (no change)
   ✓ OTP and PIN authentication work normally
   ✓ Session stores account number (backward compatible)

================================================================================
FILES IN THIS PACKAGE:
================================================================================

KEEP THESE (Modified Code):
   ✓ user_access.php
   ✓ include/class.user.php

USE ONCE, THEN DELETE:
   ✓ database_migration_add_username.sql
   ✓ populate_usernames.php
   ✓ test_username_login.php
   ✓ README_USERNAME_MIGRATION.md
   ✓ QUICK_START_GUIDE.md
   ✓ MIGRATION_INSTRUCTIONS.md

ESTIMATED TIME:
================================================================================

   Database Backup:        5 minutes
   Run Migration:          2 minutes

If something goes wrong:

   1. Restore database backup:
      mysql -u username -p database < backup.sql

   2. Restore original files:
      - Restore original user_access.php
      - Restore original include/class.user.php

   3. System returns to account number login

SECURITY NOTES:
================================================================================

⚠️ CRITICAL: Delete these files after migration:
   - populate_usernames.php (exposes database)
   - test_username_login.php (reveals system info)
   - All documentation files (reveal structure)

⚠️  RECOMMENDED: After migration, implement:
   - Password hashing (currently plain text)
   - Login attempt limiting
   - Session security improvements
   - Username format validation
